Studies...

For an environment piece I have sketched and planned out, I am doing a number of studies, below are from the photograph that inspired the environment I am working towards and the second is of some industrial building, a waste management plant. The suit study is from GI Joe Retaliation for my Streethawk reboot.

Coconut Boy Warrior Revisited

Following everything learnt from the workshop, I revised the Coconut Boy Warrior character concept which was a design exercise for a Sony Picture Entertainment brief. I studied some beaches for the background and the coconut again. Also, as I admired Paul Lasaine's work so much and his painting abilities, I studied his well known Humpty Dumpty character for inspiration. You can see more of Paul Lasaine's work on his blog (paullasaine.blogspot.com) and he will also be featuring at a Schoolism Workshop this year. Paul has worked on many film titles including Lord of the Rings, Puss in Boots and Surf's Up.

Imaginism Inhouse Workshop - Character Designs

In November, I was accepted to the Imaginism Studio's Inhouse Workshop. The experience was challenging, refreshing and completely unique to any workshop or educational experience available today in the world of Entertainment Design. It included spending 30 days in an undisclosed location in Toronto, Canada under the mentorship and teachings of resident artist Thierry Lafontaine, including lectures with Bobby Chiu, Peter Chan and Kei Acedera. Only four international students are picked from around the world who you get to collaborate, work with and learn from also. It was a fanatastic time and along with breaking down understandings of shape, value and colour process, we completed two briefs for Sony Pictures Entertainment and Pixar as exercises and were free to create a further character of our choosing to take to color stage in Photoshop and then onto an acrylic painting. Below are my designs and artwork plus my master teacher "T", fellow friends and students Marshall, Maria, Sophie and all of us together at Imaginism Studios with Bobby Chiu and Kei Acedera. Thank you to you all.
